Cost: $60 each Duration: 15 Minutes
Consultations are limited and are assigned on a first-come-first-served basis. Sign up when you register online for the conference. Click here to register.
The conference offers five kinds of one-to-one consultations:
• Project Proposal
• Picture Book Proposals
• Social Media Marketing and Branding
• Illustration or Design Portfolio
Manuscripts and Proposals:
For your manuscript or proposal submission, we will email to you the name and email address of your assigned Faculty mentor with instructions. Most mentors want to receive your manuscript or proposal two weeks before the conference.
For a manuscript, send either (a) a full picture book text or (b) a short (1-2 pages) synopsis and 5 pages of a chapter book. For a proposal, send an outline, synopsis, and other material totaling no more than 6 pages. Please email it as a word document attachment. Do not include any illustrations or dummies.
(You may share these with your mentor during your consultation.) Use industry standard manuscript formatting:
• Use double-spaced, left-justified, 12 point Times New Roman or Courier font.
• Allow one-inch margins all around, half-inch indents for each new paragraph.
• Break to a new page at chapter breaks.
• Print only on one side of the paper.
• Put your name and full contact information on the first page.
• On subsequent pages, put your name, title (shortened if necessary), and page number.
Social Media Marketing and Branding:
If you want to consult on your specific website, videos, or other pieces, you should send them to your mentor beforehand. For a more general consultation, bring your "pitch," general ideas, and concerns to your one-to-one consultation.
Illustration and Design Portfolios:
For portfolio reviews, bring your work to the conference.
During the one-to-one consultation, you will meet individually with your mentor for 15 minutes. For manuscripts or proposals, at that time you will receive a written critique and your mentor will review your work with you. If there's time, you may choose to discuss other manuscripts or any questions you might have about children's book writing.
We will endeavor to arrange consultations to take place during breaks and free time. If you are scheduled to have a consultation during workshop sessions, please leave and return quietly to your workshop.
The following Faculty members will be doing One-to-One Consultations. We will make every effort to match you with one faculty member of your choice. Please indicate your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choices when you register. Click here for Faculty bios.
